The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is a world-leading professional body with over 117,000 members, working in ground breaking areas from sustainable energy and aerospace to Formula One and cutting-edge medical technology.
The IMechE’s Membership, Accreditation and Professional Development Department provides quality services to members and prospective members, educational institutions and companies. To contribute to the successful and smooth running of the department, we are looking for a Manager to join the team.
The role holder will provide a high level of customer service to members and potential members through the management and coordination of staff engaged in the efficient processing of member queries and processes, application processing, all matters relating to Academic Review, the Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) and EngTech Scheme Approval activities.
You will be responsible with and through the team to deliver all the support activities relating to enabling individual applicants to join as students or graduates. The post holder will also be responsible for progressing to Membership applications through the Academic Review activities, ensuring the smooth and timely delivery of the review and approval activities undertaken by the IMechE and to ensure appropriate support to relevant Committees.
The ideal post holder will have:
  • substantial administrative experience and the management experience to develop and motivate their team of six to deliver excellent services to time, quality and budget
  • extensive experience in the use and manipulation of data on large scale databases
  • excellent customer skills with the ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of people with tact and diplomacy
  • excellent written English and the capacity to problem-solve using their own judgement to resolve issues
  • demonstrable personal initiative and the ability to manage both members and a complex workload of competing priorities
  • previous experience of working in a similar member based organisation would be helpful, although not essential.
